DECLARATION OF INTENTION OF HON. FRANCIS FAMUREWA (OPOMULERO) TO CONTEST THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE OSUN STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY TO REPRESENT ATAKUNMOSA EAST & WEST STATE CONSTITUENCY
Francis Famurewa, a grassroots mobilizer, a political scientist, a scholar, a social crusader, human rights activist, business leader and an epitome of celebrated achievements whose contributions to the socio-political landscape of his community can never be
over-emphasised.
The man, Francis Famurewa attended Eyinni High School in Ibadan between 1978 and 1983 before proceeding to the prestigious University of Lagos where he completed his BSc in Political Science in 1990. A man born to fly and blessed with a courageous heart, he proceeded to University of Greenwich, London, UK where he obtained a diploma in computer science in 1994. In his quest for more ICT knowledge in the emerging computer age, he got a scholarship from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) UK to study at Loughborough University of Technology, United Kingdom where he bagged a Master of Science in Information Technology in 1996.
He later wrote all the relevant professional examinations in Oracle database management and application development to become an Oracle Certified Internet Application Developer.
He worked as an IT consultant, delivering mission critical software applications with blue chip companies like British Telecommunications, Royal Bank of Scotland, Citi Bank, British Broadcasting Corporation, London Underground, PowerGen, British Petroleum and others before returning to his father land in 2003.
His extensive ICT experience traversed core and critical sectors of telecommunications, media & broadcasting, banking, oil & gas, transportation and power sectors of United Kingdom’s massive economy.
Upon his return to Nigeria, Francis Famurewa formed Clicks Digital Solutions in 2003 to provide innovative brand management services in Nigeria. Following his wealth of experience and immense contribution to the development of brand management, he became a Fellow of the Institute of Brand Management of Nigeria (FIBM). As a direct consequence of his branding practice, he developed a keen interest in marketing and advertising and became a member of the National Institute of Marketing, Nigeria (ANIMN). He formed Primax Marketing Communications (PMC) in 2010 with professionals from cognate fields of Branding, Marketing, Advertising and Communication Arts. He is currently a non executive director with Essential Global Services Limited providing cutting edge telecommunication services to world class telecoms companies.
In an effort that is marked with a passionate desire and painstaking efforts towards reducing poverty level in society, Francis Famurewa was registered with the Central Bank of Nigeria as a director of Biztrust Microfinance bank where he invested millions of naira along with other directors with the view of giving micro credit to the masses. He was a member of the Rotary Club, Oluyole Estate, Ibadan and he shares the objectives of the club which is to touch and change lives of people in our communities.
Blessed with a passion to lift the fortunes of his community and with the desire to right societal wrongs, while promoting freedom and social justice, Francis Famurewa joined active politics to ensure that his community has a better deal through responsive, responsible and effective governance. Francis Famurewa brings his high educational qualifications, business acumen, international exposure and connections to bear on the political landscape of his community.
He was a member of the Governing Council, Osun State College of Education, Ilesa where he was a member of the finance committee ensuring judicious use of the resources of the college. He was also the chairman of the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) committee of the college saddled with the responsibilities of boosting the IGR portfolio of the college.
Francis Famurewa became the pioneer chairman of Atakunmosa West local government of the state of Osun in 2018 under a new parliamentary system of government introduced at the time.
As the council boss, he was responsible for formulating and managing the implementation of people orientated policies of the council that cut across security, health, education, agriculture, water & environmental sanitation, infrastructural development and other social services as well as managing the micro economy of the local government. He left an indelible mark in the local government in the form of commissioning of two legacy projects on a single day - the aesthetically appealing customary court in Osu that is acclaimed to be the best in the whole of Osun state and the Kafayat Oyetola Health centre in Oke-Osin. A feat that was not recorded in the local government in the preceding 12 to 15 years.
Francis Famurewa passionately shares the Rotary 4 Way Test that says before we think, say or do anything, we should always ask ourselves four questions: Is it the TRUTH?; Is it FAIR to all concerned?; Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIP?; and Will it be BENEFICIAL to all CONCERNED? These have been the guiding principles of his administration at Atakunmosa West local government and beyond.
A visionary, self motivated and goal oriented technocrat with close to thirty years of demonstrated global experience in consulting, planning, developing and implementing cutting edge business solutions to address operational and business requirements. Core competence in Business Strategy, Strategic Management, Project Management, Team Management, Business Processes, Strategic Planning, Partnerships/Alliances management, Technology management and innovation.
Francis Famurewa believes that political mediocrity should be flushed out of our developing democracy and has consequently shown interest to represent the good people of Atakunmosa East & West State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly in the year 2023.
Armed with a degree in political science, a masters in Info. Tech. with a solid hands-on experience of governance at the grassroots as a council boss with deep exposure to an array of real grassroots issues and international exposure to provide basis for comparative analysis of issues to find legislative solutions that bring development.
Key departments under his watch as a council boss include water & environmental sanitation, agriculture, works, finance, admin, budget, health, town planning, and social & information.
The experience in these key areas of human life can be brought to bear as a leverage on his legislative duties in the house of assembly.
In summary, Hon. Francis Famurewa is the best man for the job for the following reasons:
Political
He aspired for this same position over 12 years ago, the ticket was given to another person who joined the party in less that 3 months. Francis Famurewa never left the party, he rather committed his resources and campaigned for the candidate thereby proving his loyalty to the party.
Education
He is a graduate of political science with solid knowledge of political systems, principles of separation of powers, rule of law, and constitutional development which are essential ingredients of effective legislation. His MSC in Information Technology simply means he understands both current and emerging technologies and how legislations can encapsulate ICT trends.
Experience
He has been a member of the governing council of Osun State College of Education, a citadel of higher learning, a chairman of local government and a deputy chairman of ALGON of Osun State with deep insights to the hopes and aspirations of the people at the grassroots.
International Exposure
Hon. Francis Famurewa has worked with Camden Council, British Telecommunications, British Petroleum, Royal Bank of Scotland, Citi Bank, Power Gen, London Underground, Man Investment Products, BBC e.t.c; all in the United Kingdom either as an employee or a consultant. This has exposed him to global best practices that can be brought to bear on his legislative duties.
Hon. Francis Famurewa believes that this is the best time to put the right people in the right places to genuinely move our country forward to a place of pride for all. It has been acknowledged by all right thinking people that the Nigerian 1999 constitution is flawed hence the need to put round pegs in round holes to position our state for future engagements that will shape the future of our generations yet unborn.
